The punk-driven indie rock band Los Frankies dropped a deliriously fierce new single “Gunna Wanna” on February 4 and, as always, has commanded an absolute rager alongside it.
The track begins with that familiar high-pitched, electric ring---you know, the one that bounces off the walls at the start of a truly raw and dirty punk show. Immediately, guitars crackle to life, someone clears their throat in the mic, and the fury begins.
“Gunna Wanna” marches forward, unrelenting, with an addictive pulse and rhythm. The thunderous throbbing of guitar and drums create a soundscape that is loud, defiant, and intensely school-house rock. The track then heralds the brief but majestic wail of a solo guitar before breaking into a full-punch of percussion. The effect is almost violent: a very intentional, full-body, cataclysm of sound.

“It’s the only song on the record we didn’t track live,” said frontman and guitarist Frankie Salazar. “I originally wrote it on a beat machine—kind of [like] a Crystal Castles meets The Kills thing—and that original drum beat is still buried in the final mix.”
Whether you’re sitting in your room next to a laptop speaker or quietly tapping your foot to the track on the train, any listening experience feels inappropriate if the sound system isn’t as bold and brash as the track itself. It’s a sound you just know would kill it in an angry, live set. So, we asked:
Why wasn’t this song tracked live?
Salazar nods to the band’s drummer, Miles Deiaco.
“Funny enough, the reason we didn’t do it live at first is because Miles didn’t show up. We thought something bad happened. Turns out he was just asleep,” she jokes. “After a little yelling on the phone, he came in and put real drums on it.”
By the time “Gunna Wanna” rips into a cathartic, clap-along chorus, it really doesn’t make sense why you’re not in some sweating mosh pit, leeching the energy from a collectively wild crowd.
It’s an all-consuming build-up of song and noise that begs for a break after the storm passes, which is perfect for the intention the group has behind the track.
“We hope the takeaway is simple,” said the band. “Remember your herb, because when shit hits the fan, you’re Gunna Wanna.”
